Writing the Assyrian Alphabet
In these pages, I will show you how to write in Assyrian. For best results, I suggest once in a while have paper and pen handy and write those letters down. Gradually, I will illustrate writing words and sentences.

Assyrian Alphabet in six words…
In early 1900's there was a wise teacher (Beyamin Arsanus) who organized our alphabet in six groups, which sound like words! It was a very smart move, because ever since, it has been easy to learn and memorize them. Here are the six words:
Abgad, hawwaz, khattay, kalman, sa'pas, qarshat ! That's all, Assyrian alphabet in six words!
In a minute, we will write these words and will learn how to combine the alphabet together. But first, there is a catch, some of the letters have one or two different versions. Some will differ when they are at the end, after certain letters or in the middle of the word; and some will need an extra mark to make them sound different; for example, to create the sound "zh" as in words "version" or "pleasure", we need to add a "~" mark on letter "sheen"; or to create a letter with the sound "F", we need to add an arch under the letter "Pe", etc. We will discuss them in a minute.
And now, we will see the different versions of our alphabet.

Different versions of the Assyrian Alphabet
Most of the letters are universal, i.e, can be used at the beginning of the word, in the middle and at the end. Some, however, will change shapes depending on their position in the word. For instance, letter "meem looks different when it is at the beginning or in the middle from when it is written at the end.
Also, the letters "kap", and "Noon" have two different end versions, one that will join the letter before it, and another that will not.
Later, we will see how some of our letters will join from both sides, some only from the right side and some are solitary (mofrad), will not join from either side.
Here is the list of those letters that change when they are at the end of the word.
